The Tehachapi Community Orchestra announces its 11th Annual Young Artist Competition for outstanding 14-22 year old students. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship and will perform as a featured soloist with the Tehachapi Community Orchestra. Eligibility – The competition is open to solo performers of all orchestral instruments. Performers must be between the ages of 14 and 22 and must play standard orchestral work (concerto or other piece).
Music Selection – The selection should be a single concerto movement, substantive to stand alone, an entire concerto of brief length, or a work for solo instrument and orchestra. Solo selections performed recently by the orchestra are not recommended. Memorization is required for both the competition and the concert.
Judging – For the competition, contestants must provide the judges with a copy of the music.
Other Guidelines – Winners must be available for three Tuesday evening rehearsals, including the dress rehearsal, prior to the concert performance.
